Liatris and Meadow - Take II

I cropped this picture and added a curves adjustment after getting an informal critique from garden and landscape photographer Ian Adams. Which version do you prefer?

Ian will be at Royal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton/Burlington next month to give a talk and a two-day photography workshop. There is still time to enrol in the workshop on Sept. 12 and 13, which has class limit of 15. You can e-register here.

  1. Just gorgeous. What are the yellow flowers?

  2. Hi Rosemay: Thanks for visiting. There are two different yellow flowers dominating the meadow here: Ratibida pinnata (prairie coneflower), which has drooping petals, and Rudbeckia subtomentosa (sweet coneflower), which you see right up front.

  3. Love your photos, so dreamy. Good luck with the new blog, I'll keep checking in for sure.

  4. I'd have to say your crtique was on the money. There is a crispness to the flowers that contrasts nicely with the haziness of the horizon. Another beautiful photo, Yvonne!

  5. I prefer the cropped/curves adjustment photo. It is more dynamic. The purple and yellow flowers really complement each other, and just the right amount of misty sky and trees in the background add drama. Your photos are beautiful, Yvonne. I certainly wish I could attend Ian's workshop, but I'll be leaving for Colorado. If he has one there sometime in the future I will try to attend. I really enjoy and learn so much from his photo workshops.
